How 3D immersive sound is used to create content that stands out

Break through a content-cluttered environment.

3D audio is the digital recreation of sound we hear every day in the real world. It’s always around us, and it can come from any direction.

Spatial Sound” combines the interactions between acoustic sound waves, the space, and interactions with our head and ears.

Most immersive audio concepts have existed for decades. But the interest in immersive audio has increased enormously in recent years due to the growing popularity of stand-alone audio content and technologies such as augmented reality (AR). It has also become more accessible for the consumer; with just your phone and a common set of earplugs, it’s possible to experience 3D immersive audio.

It’s a creative and inspiring approach to create content or a commercial that stands-out. A good example I find in the collaboration between Spotify and Warner Brothers to promote the movie “A Star Is Born” with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

The ad mimics the surround-sound effect of being in the theater when the viewer has on headphones.

An ad like this helps break through a content-cluttered environment and get audiences to more deeply engage with our movies,” said Andrew Hotz, EVP of worldwide digital marketing for Warner Bros., in an email. “For A Star Is Born, we were looking for breakthrough opportunities that remained true to the film’s themes and tone.”

I think BBC inspires producing its own in-house voice assistant called Beeb. They removed their podcasts from certain Google products, and their radio stations are also disappearing from TuneIn. They must have realized that they were becoming one of many vying to sell their content
